Vanda coerulea

Dry spell for about 4 weeks again trigger another spike of Vanda coerulea I like the blue color.

Zainal, I'm again wondering, because of the dark blue colouir of your flowers. I have many Vanda coerulea, but no one plants make such dark flowers. OK, one from supermaket, but I'm not sure if it's an hybrid or not. Are your plants a selected clone?

Hi Mietek this is selected clone from Thailand, I agree with you most of my wild coerulea doesn't behave like this I got 3 wild species and 6 selected clones.

Or could it be that the dark blue colour is a subjective product of a camera? Blue and true violet are among the most difficult to express in photos, and often the end result is a colour not like the one in real life.

Wally, you are right, but no camera make such wrong exposure and make from e.g. my Vanda coerulea this dark form.

Wally the color of this flowers are between violet and blue ya its very difficult to get the real color and the camera interpret as dark blue.

Some how I don't believe this photo over flatters the subject at hand. These flowers are still real stunners Zain. I love the blues and they really are precious when your talking about flowers in general, let alone orchids. AL

lanhua's plant is a true species IMO while Zainal's plant is a hybrid. I always thought those dark color, round and flat flowers were just great clones until Eric Christenson pointed out the obvious....
Some of those dark blue ones have been awarded as Vanda coerulea under AOS judging system...

The difference is that Zainal's photos were shot using a flash, while Mietek employed natural light. If we are to photograph another blue orchid, let's say Dendrobium victoriae-reginae, using flash photography then natural lighting, the differences in the outcome would be very, very obvious.

Like Tom, I also think that Mietek's plant is a pure species. I cannot comment on Zainal's plant being a hybrid or otherwise, as I cannot see enough of the labellum to make an educated guess. But somehow I find the almost perfect shape and the petal attitude to be a little too ideal, even to a line-bred Vanda coerulea.
