Got 2 new phalaenopsis - Bargain

I decided to visit a store around and see if they had some orchids on sale. They didn't but the condition they were in make me ask the sales person for a lower price. I got two phal reduced from $24.98 to $10.00 each. They looked very dry and no blooms on the spikes, leaves looked good. I brought them home and had them repot in soaked bark that I had. I'm practically new at growing orchids and have failed with a couple of them (killed them). Now these two I repot them today but am not sure If I should cut the spike or just let leave it like that to see if it will bloom for a second time. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciate it.

Good for you! These orchid look very healthy. Yes, cut the spikes back about one inch above the plant. This will let your orchid grow important roots and you will have blooms next season. Good luck!

Thank you BD. Now when you say to cut it 1" above the plant that will mean below the first node, correct?

Yes, one inch above the actual orchid. This spike will not bloom again if cut where I am directing you to cut it. This will allow your orchid to grow healthy roots and not try to rebloom on an old spike. Do not worry about nodes. Measure one inch away from the plant and cut the spike off with a clean knife or razor blade.
