Enc Mabel Kanda dried new growth

Still a baby, but has been growing well since I repotted it. What I want to know is why some of the new growth seems to turn brown/die off almost immediately? It's got lots of healthy roots and a couple of small p-bulbs forming below the leca. I'm trying to give it as much light as I can in this location. Potted in s/h. It's a little hard to see, but right in the center is the dead growth I'm referring to. Thoughts?

I also am having similar problems with some of my LC.s. I do not overfertilize and the roots seem fine.

I would wager that it is a fungal infection. does it smell musty or putrid? is it actually dried or mushy? if its dry, it may be that you are not misting it enough, that usually does it.

It's definitely just dried, but I had noticed some fuzzy white mold on a root near an opening in the side. Since it's in s/h, I assumed that would happen occasionally being that it sits in water in an outer pot. Maybe I should move that one to a tray? I will also move it closer to my humidifier and see if that helps. Thanks!

Update: I took a closer work once I got to the office this morning, and pulled away the dead leaves to find new growth in the middle! The bottoms of the dead bits were soggy, but there was no odor other than what soil smells like when it's wet (and very faintly at that). Last time I watered this one I made sure to rinse clean water through it before putting it back in the outer pot because of that mold I noticed. I didn't see it when I checked this morning. There were some other dead/soggy/brown bits that I pulled out and snapped a cell phone photo of (below) but to me it looked like the papery sheath stuff around p-bulbs. Maybe an expert can better identify? I know the photo isn't the best. The roots all look healthy, and there are ton attached to the area that originally concerned me. I'm wondering if the s/h is keeping it too wet? Any more help is greatly appreciated

What is S/H? i have noticed it used around quite a bit......Anyway, If you dont have it in bark, i would switch to a small grade bark. My Encyclia cohleata is doing great in bark, and all others i have seen love it too!

s/h = semi-hydro. I have it potted in a clay aggregate. It was in bark for a long time and never did much of anything, though it was also in a pot much too large. It seemed much happier once I moved it to a smaller pot but also changed the medium so I'm not sure which actually brought about the change. What would you recommend if it is a fungal infection?

it seems like your new growth was kept wet for too long, maybe it is potted too deep in the pellets. the pbulbs should be sitting on top of the media nor in it because that will most likely cause it to rot.

Thank you! I will have to mess with it a bit, a couple of p-bulbs are definitely too low in the medium.

I removed some of the leca pebbles from atop the buried p-bulbs this morning, but they're very low compared to the one large one that is sitting at the right height in the medium. Right now this is causing quite a few roots to be exposed to the air. Is this ok? How would you recommend separating the smaller pb's from the larger plant so I get them at the proper height? Thanks for all your help on this everyone

The roots will most likely die due to the new enviroment but new roots will develop soon and your plant will be ok. Most onc. Are climbers which means each new growth will probably be higher than the older one.

Well, after a long struggle and some apparent progress, I ended up losing this one I learned a lot for next time though
