This is my first reblooming of this plant - single spike with 15+ flowers - yippee!

The tag calls this an Odontocidium, but a few sources on the internet call it a Carpenterara instead. Any thoughts on which is correct?

The flower has a slightly more intense yellow background that what this picture shows, but i couldn't get the lighting just right to display the true color. I may try again later, but for now, enjoy!

Well, I did not even know there were orchids called Capenterara, or whatever... but that shape sure looks like my Odontocidium. How big is the flower - and can one of you gurus out there tell me the difference between Odontocidium and Carpenterara??

Diane - the flowers are about 2.75 inches in diameter. The Carpenterara name was a new one for me too!

Carpenterara, abbreviated Cptra, is a cross between the following genera: Baptistonia x Odontoglossum x Oncidium

I have no idea which species in each genus went into this cross, however.

Oh sure, why not ask? Baptistonia is one of those really rare genera in orchidom--a genus of only one species: B. echinata. (Thus I can tell you one of the ancestral species of the plant in Christopher's picture.) At any rate, given the few species to work with, I suspect Carpenterara will remain a fairly unusual genus.

Mind you, if there are are any really desirable characteristics of it, Baptistonia genes may get incorporated into many other crosses.

I must say, though, this flower doesn't look very different from most Odontocidiums.

and then 15+ flowers... how big is this plant???

This plant is 'full grown' but is not huge. The pbulbs with leaves stand about 12 inches tall (above the media). It is growing in a 5 inch pot. It has one 4 pbulbs - three previous plus the one that is now blooming. I'll post a picture of the entire plant for you to see. I'm also one of the impatient ones that takes pictures as soon as the first flower opens...

Great plant you have there. Must be very healthy to produce so many flowers. Lovely flowers and interesting spotting.
