Searching on Banfieldara, I found: BANFIELDARA = ADA x BRASSIA X ODONTOGLOSSUM x > ONCIDIUM. I have a Zygopetalum too, grew very well on a south window sill over the past year, more than doubled in size. It got some sunburn last month. I don't know yet if it will bloom. It is very fragrant. In a rhs discussion, it stated

Ok, now for the convoluted, sometimes boring stuff. Gilded tower consists of four species in equal parts:
Oncidium wentworthianum, Rhynchostele (formerly Odontoglossum) bictoniense, Brassia (formerly Ada) keiliana, and Brassia arcuigera (formerly longissima, for those of you old enough to remember), so the current genus is Brascidostele. (For one brief moment in time it was Anikaara). So now you have two surprises.

I thought I would stick mine in here for comparison. Normally I wouldn't because I can't take credit for blooming it. In this case, I thought it might be interesting to compare. I assume culture is similar to the other intergenerics in this class?

Gorgeous, Daniel - you SHOULD take credit, if only for keeping it alive long enough to photo such a beautiful plant. I understand from Michael Saar that Banfieldaras are part of that great phenomenon in orchidology that creates, recreates, renames, and generally confuses ordinary people about which species, hybrids, genus (geni?), etc have been renamed, reevaluated and otherwise contorted. Apparently, Banfieladara "Gilded Tower" is part of the genus Rhynchostele, is comprised of 4 species, 2 of which are Brassia, and, I have also run across at least two different cultivars (not sure if that's the right term). I have a "Thai Gold", but there is also a "Mystic Maze". Do you know which you have?
By the way, I don't know if you saw my thread about my "Witch Doctor" - which is somewhere in this forum - it's a pretty cool plant.
HOWEVER, what I mostly wanted to know about is your zygopetalum , because that is my greatest next "I-WANT-I-NEED". Do you have a photo? What kind do you have? How long have you had it? Is it hard to grow? I'd love to see it, since, I'm chasing fragrance so hard and having little luck (not a big cattleya fan). I'm actually about to embark on adding bonsaiing a dwarf gardenia to prop up my collection, but I'd still rather have a zygo.
If you're interested, Atlanta happens to have one of the biggest orchid conservatories in the States, if not internationally, and I have several great photos of zygos, brassias, oncids, etc, if you'd like a PM or something.

Thank you for the nice comments... I hope this orchid grows and reblooms under my care. It's really striking in person.
Sometimes it seems like much of the "technique" in getting orchids to grow and bloom is choosing the right one for one's own circumstances.
This is the Zygopetalum from last August. Since then it developed 2 new growths that far exceeded the original growth. Then I placed it outside on the North side of the house, and the small amount of late afternoon sun that peeked around caused sunburn on 2 big areas of leaves. Oncidiums in the same location got no sunburn at all. It's still looking ok otherwise. We'll see if it blooms this year.
This is very fragrant. I made a mistake thinking the care would be like a Cymbidium, which tolerate full sun. I think it should be shadier. If it reblooms again, I'll be anxious to share!
I should find a way to get to Atlanta some time.... never been there!
