But there were other good things too, like seeing the family of otters, the occasional mongoose and being visited 3 times by panggolins.

I wasn't familiar with the pangolins, so I looked it up and read about them - what interesting creatures! Thanks for giving me another opportunity to learn something more about our wonderful world!

not to be different then society but it makes me sad to hear that natural environments, such as yours, are destroyed for housing developments....i cant say much for this area...seeing that industry and humans alike have totally paved this area, where i live.....but it reminds me of a scenario a couple of years ago, here. They wanted to build a 125 house project. In order to do so they would have to cut down the oldest tree left in my town. It prob took 3 or 4 people to hug this tree..thats how big and old it was. Massachusetts was also going to waiver that there as a rear and endangered salamander species living in this area...oh what money does to 1000 apon 1000 years of evolution in a snap of a finger.....

here in the Uk, well parts of it England anyway we can make quite a strong foothold on preservation. especially with trees, woodland and areas cited with native orchid population. We can have them listed as with buildings under a grade system. However, and I know you were expecting this word. Field areas known as 'green belt' when protected mysteriously get overhauled and developed on. Trusts and conservation groups are rife around here and manage too keep track of the laws and procedures. The younger generations naivity and ignorance serves us well as ive seen native orchids growing in public view on footpaths and remain intact. The maturer cultured part of society respect its place and dont publicise it. Ignorance is bliss sometimes. Are own ephermeral brand of evolution. Perhaps???
