I have a jewel orchid (Ludisia) that grows in only potting soil. It has never done very well for us, but it blooms each year. Still a bit of a small plant though. I should repot mine as I have a flat bonsia pot that would probably be better than the 4 inch clay pot it is in now. Good topic Andrew!
