    Default My Vanda house progress.....

Back in March, 2009, I said my other half, Mike, "I have an idea!" He, at first walked away. But I drew the picture along with the measurement to convince him to make a 'Vanda house' for me. It was so cute. My Vandas thrived so well and I got inspired ( = I kept adding plants. )

    March 1, 2009

Within 6 months, since the original 'house' got so crowed, the house got enlarged.

    September 14, 2009

Nearly two years later, as of today, it is completely FULL again. Here are my options.

    1. NO MORE PLANTS ( then I loose my 'membership', don't I? )
    2. Get rid of some plants sitting next the Vanda House, esp. my Phrags, which are really not doing well so I can add one more tray.
    3. OR, move to Florida so that I can grow them outside.

Do y'all call it is a healthy hobby?

Looking good Naoki. I guess the best option is move to Florida. than you can grow outdoors. The second is get rid of the phrags. Than you have more space. Number one is no option. Everone knows it not possible to not buy any more Vanda's.

Naoki, I've never seen the progression photos. It is amazing to me how well they do.
I know...you know, I'm voting on option 3. Move to Florida!!!

Naoki sent me a Vanda Paki because he knew I was looking for one. Very generous of him
When the plant arrived..it had nary a blemish. No spots, no dots! It also was the absolutely the exact color well grown vandas should be.

    Your Vandas all look great!

Are those Angraecums in pots sitting next to your Vanda enclosure? Wow I love those Angraecums too.

Well sir, I vote for number 3 - move to Florida! If you can grow Vandas that well indoors, just think what you could do in an environment where they grow outside so easily. hahaha... All kidding aside, you are obviously an exceptional orchid grower. I hope you can get your phrags to do well for you too.

    cheers,
    BD

Willeke, I knew the #1 option won't get approved in this forum. My choice is same as yours.

Jojo, in addition to Vandas, I love Angraecums. I have a few of them. The challenge of those is that they get HUGE so fast.

Me, too. To be honest with you all, we are really thinking about it. Within 5 years, we might be relocating. Mike can retire anytime, but I need to find a job before we move....... I am still buying a lottery ticket every week.
