Need some help, Does anyone know how to use the International Orchid Register, when you have the name of the parents? I don't get any answer.
Is this working for you, I put both parents names in and came up with nothing, I tried various ways, if you can help, i would appreciate.
Hi Carol, I will help you out with it, it is very easy. 1) Go to the register The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening
2) Click on parentage search
3) Now it will ask for the name of the parents, for the seed parent type bactia in the grex and for the pollen parent type nodosa and then click on search, you will get a results page which will show possible hybrids for the names you typed in.
Then click on the name and you can see the details
The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening
When using the RHS register you have to keep one thing in mind that it does not recognize cultivar names or named awarded plants, so it knows only Cattlianthe Bactia but not any of its clones like grape wax etc. The second thing you have to keep in mind is that you have to be precise in terms of the data you provide, make a spelling mistake and it will not give any results, try searching with old genera names (name changes in CAttleya alliance) and it will give you a lot of difficulty (but interestingly once done right it does give you the synonyms from older day LOL).
So my rule is to keep it simple and give it as less info as I can, for hybrids I usually leave out the genera names, just give the grex names and then screen the search results for the plant I am interested in. You will surprised with all the available info. Hope this helps you.

The one other confounding thing is that it will only recognize the parents in the order that they were originally registered; bactia x nodosa is recognized whereas nodosa x Bactia is not. Which is why I use OrchidWiz.
Thank-you guys so much, I tried it and it worked so my many thanks!
