Lovely blooms.
Thanks everyone for looking in and for your comments. Hope to be able to keep it going for some time and be rewarded with twice the number of blooms . Hehehe
I can see why you love her - a find like this is not to be tossed aside!
I love this orchid. Such a beauty. And congrats on successful growing/blooming! I know this is a bit of an old thread, but can you tell me your potting medium and watering schedule? I have 3 plants I have had since early this year, and I am still trying to find good information on it. Thanks.![]()
A grex I have, and occasionally flower - but not the 4n parent I guess, so mine is much more humble. You are to be congratulated/envied .
I use quite large pieces of charcoal- 2 x 1 inch chunks in a 4 inch plastic pot. I grow all my different orchids in the same shade house under 50% shade cloth. Watering is twice a day in the morning and late afternoon. This watering schedule may seem excessive to you under your growing conditions but here in Malaysia it is the normal practice.
I have mentioned that I have killed my fair share of Irene Dobkin and this particular clone seems to be quite hardy. BTW this plant is now putting out 2 spikes and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the current rainy spell will not give me any fungus problems. I think I'll have to find me a couple more Irene Dobkins just for insurance. But not easy to find here though.
Thanks for the info, Cattan. That is very interesting, and duly noted. I grow mine in coconut husk chips in wooden baskets. They seem to be happy only when I keep them constantly moist. Do you have any other words of advice for growing this beauty? I want to gather as much information as I can from others' experience with Ascps Irene Dobkin. Thank you again! God bless!

Yes, I bought 3 together in a wooden basket, each with 2 spikes. This was back in February. But the roots were going downhill, so eventually they had almost no roots to speak of, and I had to sphag and bag to regrow new roots. Now the larger 2 are doing great, lots of new roots and 2 new leaves each, and the smallest one is still struggling to get some new roots and a very small new leaf. I will be thrilled if the larger 2 decide to bloom for me in the next year!
