little brown ants

I remember reading about ants before but I have conflicting information in my brain....one place I read that they are not harmful, just a nuisance and another place I read that they are the sign of some other problem??

I went out this AM and found tiny brown ants on the new growths of one of my large Catts. Just on the new growths. Could it be the honeydew stuff that attracts them? Should I just submerge the pot in water?

Well i,ve had ants in some of my pots (not in s/h) & they didn,t seem to do any harm.It did appear they were after the honey dew on the plants.
Since i,m in the UK & our ants are probably different.
Small to you may be the size of a Labrador .
Drown the little critters if they bother you.

I never saw any harm in letting ants crawl on my orchids untill this summer.
One day I noticed one ant chewing a hole in one of my cattleya buds
It was only a tiny hole but after that it started to yellow and eventually I lost it.
Same thing happend with another cattleya in bud needles to say ants are not my favorite insects at the moment
