My balcony isn't really suited for orchids staying outside at all -- we only get about 4 or 5 months when it's warm enough, and those months, we get a *lot* of rain and not enough sun to dry it up fast. I'm told we're technically a swamp biome, but don't get the heat or sun or a long enough growing season to support tropical plants outside. And then most summers we get about two weeks running where it's just blazing sun without any rain at all. Not even a great climate for regular plants in pots, although I do what I can. It's a nice place to be a human who likes cool, cloudy weather, though.

As an update on this plant, the top leaf that looked so bad went, and over a couple weeks, the next one didn't look infected but the base got brown and dry until it was almost detached anyway, so I took it off. The other two are holding on without any change so far, but even if it's stabilized, I imagine it will be months before it starts growing again.
