well, hi all, haven't been on in a while, been kinda crazy around here. recently bought several more orchids , a Brassada orange delight "hilo sunrise" some sort of oncidium whose name escapes me (nicknamed the turtleshell orchid because of convex pbulbs, and this afternoon.....(drumroll) a Oncidium "Shary baby" sweet fragrance, some nice oncidiums, some oddballs, and a huge, i mean HUGE cattelya of some sort, which I bought as it was only $5 because they needed to make room. I've only had it for a few hours, and the shary baby has me super stoked. it has 4-5 pseudobulbs, the largest almost the size of my palm. if i'm lucky it will bloom this year, but deffinately next year if all goes well. I've heard various comments on light for these guys, some say more, some less. should a southeast window w/ no obstructions be enough, or would I need more? (sorry I'm not being more specific on light) also, since i now have a few of the "spider orchids" that are blooming size, I may set them outside next year and see if the dirt daubers (local spider hunting wasps) would take notice, maybe some hybrids/new plantlets if there ends up being seeds. so, just thought I'd touch base back here and tell how my collection has grown.
