I grow my phals in fine bark - but not with any of that other junk that comes in the 'orchid mixes'. Some people grow them in sphag. But I don't think the shultz would kill it as long as you don't over water.

Oh boy, I called everywhere today and nobody sells large or even medium orchid bark! Argh... Looks like fine and medium fine is the best I'm getting. >_>
But it's repotted now. In a big 8 inch pot. I like to overpot new orchids a little, so they can work on growing roots. Not like they're gonna bloom for a while anyway, I'd just rather them get their strength back before they work on blooming. :3
Yeah, I agree. Fine bark is okay, but be careful with watering. I don't really use fine bark, but I happened to get a phal a while ago that was potted in really fine bark--almost like "soil." It seems to enjoy living in that mix and blooms like crazy. Then again, I tend to water that phal less since the mix is so fine.
