Hello All....So my moldy pot issue went from bad to worse! I came home from work today and found its new previously happily growing leaf turned to complete mush, in one day!
I promptly removed the leaf assuming crown or root rot, here is what the crown looked like sans its recently deceased leaf, it really doesn't look like anything is wrong to me :/
So of course I snap into action and cut off its blooming spikes (which I just saw I might not have had to do *facepalm*) and began the repoting process. After removing the offending clay pot this is what I saw, again it looks pretty good to me! (Aside from the intense sphag)
I continued to go about removing every little bit of sphag I could-it was insanely densely packed, and this is what I got
I expected to find a bunch of rotted roots, but they really look mostly okay to me (this is me thinking I did all this for nothing) but here are some odd things I found. The first was that 80% of the roots appeared to be broken in many places, but they were still green-so not sure what that meant. They also have a lot of spots where they look like they were strangled. Also there were two dark spots (but dried up) you can see in the images here-but the roots continue green after those spots. Also I have no idea what the white vs green roots is all about.
So now I don't know what to think or do! I just ordered new potting mix, it will come tomorrow along with a new plastic pot and some fertilizer. I don't have any fungicide or insecticide to treat anything, but I did put a little bit of cinnamon where the removed leaf was. As I was left with an unpotted orchid with nowhere to put it I went for a sphag and bag until I get some advice from you guys, pic below
I dont see anything particularly wrong, but why on earth would a new leaf just liquefy? The clay pot did REEK, it is already out in the garbage.
Please help! I fell in love with this little guy....I don't want to lose him.
p.s. I hope those pictures work....I couldnt figure out how to resize them to inbed them....
