Phal gigantea slow death?

Hello everyone! I am wondering if my Phal. gigantea is slowly dying.
I recently repotted it from a wetter all moss medium into the pot it is currently residing.
It had three leaves and a bad root system and now has lost its bottom leaf.
As you can see in the photo, it is putting out a new root (maybe more in the pot).
Also, the smaller leaf appears to be yellowing.
I keep it outside where temps. are high 80's during the day and about 70 at night.
Below are photos of the plant. Please let me know what you think I should do to stop its decline!

I do not know what others advice would be. I have lost most of the species phal i've ever bought. The only ones that have ever survived are mounted with little or no potting materials. There are some orchids that just seem to hate being in a pot of any kind. Perhaps someone who has more success with them will be able to advise you...

I hate to be a trouble maker but I think that pot is too big. I find that phals do best in pots that are just barely big enough to accomocate the roots. I agree with Cjcorner, the best phal species I've seen have been mounted. One trick --- vendor information removed - see faqs on posting ---- is to allow the medium to get very dry if there aren't many roots but to mist it daily on the top of the medium around the stem of the plant. This seems to encourage new roots in that area. Good luck.

I agree, the pot is too big and it looks like you are giving it too much light.

Gigantea does best when mounted. They are verrrrry susceptible to crown rot, especially as they get larger. The temperatures you're keeping it at sound good - they don't like getting cool. If your temps recently went down, that may cause the yellowish tinge, otherwise the plant looks good as evidenced by the new root.

Hi Cody I agree with Connie and Michael, they do best when you mounted on drift wood, tree bark they really dislike to put them in the pot based my on experience. look the gigantea plants I already mounted on Mango tree more then 7 years the leaf almost about 3 feet.Hope will give you some idea on this beautiful species.

Seems specie phal orchid do better mounted. I agree about the pot being to large too.

I agree with tucker on the sizing of the pot. Though I have used upturned net pots to decrease the size of larger pots, when stability was an issue
