Cypripediums in warm climate

Hey all.. I really really really want a cypripedium >_< .. however, since cypripediums in general require cold to cool temperatures, I don't know how Im going to pull off growing one. Do any of you on here have any experience or tips on growing cypripediums in a warm climate?

There are several north american species that thrive in warm climates, check out some of the websites from over that way-i was interested too, until i realised that i would have to pay $166 to the NZ govt to get a sterile flask with a phyto cert.....i was left wondering 'Why should i if it is sterile and free of pests and diseases?' Just check out the importation laws of your country-some countries require a permit, others dont.

Thanks for the advice! Just looked into some Species; the warmth tolerant ones can be grown well in usda zones 8-9ish, i live in zone 10 so i may be able to pull off growing one of those species.. Wow $166 (is that in NZ dollars?) either way thats outrageous.. Even here in the US the native species are still like $45+ for a blooming size plant, which wouldn't be too bad if i was sure that it would survive.. Im going to start saving my money.. Now!

Yes, that was in NZD, and that was just the Import Permit! The flasks alone wouldve cost me around 45USD each (about 40NZD), and a minimum order was 20 flasks, although the guy was willing to send one or two for me, as i was only new to it at that stage.

Wow, and I thought import permits were a pain in the US.. Well I guess if someone is willing to buy at least 20 flasks at 45$ each, the import permit wouldn't seem as bad.

Thats why he had a minimum order on international shipping flasks. The cost of an import permit would be hardly noticeable
