flourescent types

Ok, need some help here. after reading many many threads on these tubes, I remain as confused as ever. How many different types of these bulbs are there???? I mean as regards light output, not size or actual configuration. I see high output, agro etc etc etc. And the biggie, are they any better than the cool white????? I eagerly await the fruits of your collective wisdom.......

The difference in regards to hardware store variety fluorescents e.g. T5,T8,etc is the relationship between light output and energy consuption as far as I am aware. Personally, I am using six T8 bulbs in standard shoplight fixtures. I alternate bulbs...blue spectrum, red spectrum, blue, red, and so on. My plants don't complain and I generally get good growth out of them all. Surely, it's not enough to bloom some higher light plants but it works for me

A little clarification-T5, T8, T12, etc represents the type of lamp T(ube) and diameter in 1/8"(5/8", 8/8" or 1", etc). I haven't grown anything under lights for more years than I care to remember, but there are lots on this forum who do.
