    BD's suggestion is excellent. I would and have done the same thing. Another reason why I prefer to use plastic pots nowadays - the roots don't stick to them.

    ditto on the part on plastic pots, non breakable, cheap and good. one of the reason why i still stick to clay pot because they dry faster as i got very itchy hands and i would spray my orchids 2x/day.

    really dun have the heart to break the pot, i can see nice green silvery roots coming out from bottom and the side of the pot. Sigh.......................
    Not to worry, you can always use the rest of the broken pieces when you repot other orchids - they won't go to waste. Plus you'll set all the roots free to spread out and do what they do best. If you don't break that pot eventually the roots trapped in the pot will die.
