Sue, have you thought about vase culture? I know of a few people that put their vanda seedlings in tall vases. They fill the vases with water once or twice a day and leave it in for a few minutes then drain it. That way the humidity stays up around the roots, but they are able to grow with the roots free of medium. Just a thought.

I have a few seedlings I have done this way for a while, you can see 2 of them in the window sill in the third picture. Right now they are in tall mason jars. I mist the roots through the top of the jar and then pour off the water, I do this every morning. And then I fertilize weekly by filling the jar with my fert solution and letting it soak almost all day. I usually skip misting the next morning because they're still drying from their big soak. Hope this helps!

In response to the original topic of conversation, I think my biggest sacrifice is that ALL of my orchids (all but 8 minis I grow outside) are currently in the house. That's 40 something orchids of all sizes hanging from the kitchen lights, bathroom shower rod, and filling up the tub. It's a tad in the way. My wife is being gracious, but I'm seriously hoping tonight is the last night of this, for my precious wife's sanity.
