Hi Gary, anything really - just something to make sure there are not any pests hiding in the medium. A good rule of thumb (and one I used to follow solidly, but lately I have become more slack about , is to repot ALL new orchids coming into the collection. This way they are growing in a medium I am used to and works for my watering schedule, I know the roots are healthy, and they are free of unwanted visitor pests. But back to your question: Since I grow in a greenhouse, I use Malathion but realize that it stinks pretty seriously. If the plant was going to be in my house, I would take it outside to pour the mixture through the medium and let it 'air' out.Originally Posted by goinfshn
