I know a few of the different clonals of Tahoma Glacier - and I've had a couple (lost last October), but, unless their blooms double or triple in size as they grow older, this one is really small to qualify. I agree, though, that the colors are very similar. Who knows? Anything is possible.

Thanks, Yew - I agree that it has the markings and shape of some of the Wildcats I've seen - mine's a bit smaller, but that could be its extreme youth. Did you know that Colmanara Wildcat is now Oncostele Wildcat? That's a new one on me. I just looked it up on OWiz. Why can't they just leave well enough alone? I can hardly keep up with all these name changes on top of all the other new things I'm learning about growing orchids.

    Hoping you're having a lovely day -

    Maura

Hijacking my own thread - oh well.....

Here's a question for Michael Saar - and anyone else who can navigate the taxonomy world - What are the genera that have recently been included in the Oncidium genus? And, which of the -"ara"s have collapsed into something else? Aliceara seems to be a default intergenetic, but have any of the Colmanaras, McLellanaras, Wilsonaras, Degarmoaras. Is there such a thing as an odontoglossum any more, or is it, too, now termed an oncidium? I had begun a research project on this topic, but my head's spinning and some input from others would be helpful.

No, there are apparently no Odontoglossums any more. Those which had not already been reassigned to Rhyncostele, Rossioglossum, etc. were reassigned to Oncidium. The change in Wildcat is a result of the several Odontoglossums being assigned to either Oncidium or Rhynchostele, leaving only the genera Oncidium and Rhynchostele, thus Onc(idium)(Rhynch)ostele. There's an article about the changes in the Oct/Nov/Dec Orchid Digest.

Thank you, Michael! I haven't yet subscribed to Orchid Digest - just the AOS Orchids magazine - but I can see I'm going to have to. By the way, do you know anything about Maxillaria huntii? All I know is that it was identified in 2008 and Eric Christenson wrote an article about it in Orchid Digest some time in 2009.
