Growroom refurbished.

Have spent some time making new staging , this has a drain in each to make watering easier.Added some new pegs for my species Phals.Light has been changed to a 400w Ceramic Halide.

Moved some of my warmer growing plants in from g/h.Temps are not particularly cold but hardly any descent sun.

Phragenstein is growing like a Trojan & has just started another big spike , so thats 3 spikes now & i have 2 or 3 growths that have leaves 12" long or more.

That's really interesting. Do you have just the one light in the room? What are the dimensions of the room? What about cooling?

Room is 6 foot x 6 foot approx.
Just the 1 x 400w Ceramic metal halide supplies enough light for most of the area , the Mylar really helps to extend the useful growing light.The 1 side as virtually full length stageing , 1 end is about 1000fc , the ,middle is about 1750fc & right the other end is about 300fc.
Directly under the light(normally for the high light plants) even with the light as high as it can go it is about 2700fc.
Cooling isn,t needed most of the time , there is a vent which is open to the outside.If it does get above 90f i just open the door a little.
Temps with the outside around freezing is about mid 70,s with no extra heating.Nights do drop into the 40,s without heating but generally temps stay above 55f without any heating.The walls of my house are pretty substanial(brick ) & these hold the heat very well.The heater only came on a few nights last year

Nice set up Steve... and good idea about the drain holes... guess that will take a lot of the pain of watering out of the way...

Now Phragenstein on the second last photo looks like he has a companion... what's the other one with the much more red colouring?

Another Phrag longifolium hybrid.
There is a smaller Phrag Mont Fallu( Grande x longifolium ) hiding there as well.
I tried keeping it in a smaller pot to see if i could keep the size down , this worked but the plant wasn,t happy.Now in a larger pot(modified s/h) & is really starting to grow quickly.Hopefully it should spike soon.

Refurbishing always gives me a good feeling. If it's a growroom, I bet that gets passed on to the plants, too. (Not to sound like I wear Birkenstocks all the time or something....)

Your set-up looks fantastic. I really like the peg hangers for your S/H pots, what a good idea; might have to try that. How do you work the reservoir for those, do you modify the drain holes on the pots for hanging?

Just have the drain hole the same side as the hangers.Take the plant off the peg to water it & then put it back.
