I can grow Maxillaria tenuifolia, but getting more than 4 or 6 blooms at a time is difficult. I think I am going to give mine more light and heat by moving it higher in the greenhouse. When I first started growing it, I grew it on the bench and it never bloomed. I raised it to mid-greenhouse height and it hangs underneath the standard cattleya orchids. I think once it starts to warm up here, I will raise it up to the same level as the cattleyas and see what happens. I know I can supply the heat!! hahah.. Arkansas is hot during the summer months.
cheers,

Tina takes direct brutal summer sun, and long as she stays wet she's a prolific bloomer

So let's see here.....it likes full sun....heat....and tons of water.....and ample amounts of fertillizer I'd imagine....am I missing anything here?
During the winter....I can give it water....but temps are around 74F and the light is whatever I can squeeze out of a SW window. Perhaps it I give it full sun in the summer...or at least part sun. (so it doesn't burn in our 50% daytime humidity)
Likes heat and sun and water. No problem...i'll just go put mine with the vanda's. I love the information one picks up on here!

Well, I think that "Tina" is wonderful! Don't have one myself, but I do have high humidity ( greenhouse ) heat & a lot of light. And, of course, I just LOVE fragrant orchids...I'm going shopping...Betty

Wow . .thats one beautiful mama. .I am impressed . . Think you could fit her in one of those beautiful African baskets . .

So, how hot is hot? I recently picked one of these up at an orchid show in March. Was told it was blooming size but no signs of flowers at all. I figured I wouldn't get any this year but a girl can hope. I keep it right under the grow light and humidifier and make sure to keep it fairly moist. Temp reads about 75°F most of the day.
