Hello,
Almost all of my Vanda roots have a hard, crusty, dried layer of algae covering them (all except the new roots). Is this normal for a Vanda? My concern is whether or not they are able to absorb the water and nurtients as well as they should because of this hard crust?
It's hanging in my greenhouse and I water it once each day by lowering it into a large bucket of water mixed with several teaspoons of MSU fert. I soak it approx. 20 minutes.
I bought it about 4 yrs. ago not in bloom and it finally bloomed in June of last year then bloomed again twice after that...Nov. being the final blooming.
While I'm on the subject of my Vanda....it has several keikies around the base. I have not removed them....I hope that's ok. Thoughts?
My main question is the crusty algae, so I would appreciate any advice and/or input from you.
