Never did like the fragrance of milk... I have to love your casual reference to several life-changing experiences - exploring natural phenomena in Africa would rate quite high in my book of the Love-to-Do-It-But-Highly-Improbable - as would visiting the "harems of Araby"!

The plant reminds me very much of A. sesquipedale, but perhaps a bit smaller????
