I bought this orchid last May, in-love with the colors (side note--my son thinks the colors are weird...he's not an art-shade fan.)

It rebloomed this year, and won "People's Choice" at our April Orchid Society meeting (it also won a 3rd place ribbon, but the PC award is the fun one to me--I knew it wasn't anywhere near technically perfect, but it was fun to find others shared my love for it anyway). I'm especially proud of the fact that it bloomed more abundantly this year -- has more blooms now than when I bought it last year...proving its ability to overcome obstacles!

A very descriptive nam,Kathi !. Kumquat - we don't get to see them in the shops very often here in UK, but I suppose restaurants get them , and I have had an interesting orange type sauce made with them to go with Duck ( Canard & Kumquat salad) - and that is one reference to the colour of your orchid I suppose.
As to the other word, I used to live in a rural area of the English Midlands, where houses were often made with wood skeleton frames ,infilled with panels of what was called wattle and daub - actually rushes woven in and out, and plastered a with a lime and mud mix - there was no decent building stone in that area, nor clay suitable for brick-making ( historically). The custom was to paint the outside - using a lime-wash coloured with ox-blood - literally the blood from the abbatoir - which gives a darkish pink colour.So that'sanother reference.
An unusual name though !

This is a lovely one Kathi, and congrats on the awards. To be honest the name is what made me curious, . The immediate picture conjured in my head was nowhere near the pleasant picture you posted. Don't think I'll ever get used to some of the names these plants have been stuck with.

Lovely blooms! Can't believe I missed this thread.
Congratulations on the award and ribbon, well deserved, although I would consider a different name if I were the person who registered it.
