A Dendrobium moschatum var. coloratum for your enjoyment

I'm not a dendrobium person at all. I tried dendrobiums but for some reason I never really got into them. This is, along with another species, is the exception. I absolutely love the delicate blooms, and the colors are to die for.

I bought this at the Redlands show in May 2011. I was going to cut off the old, old canes (which seem dead to me) but as I was inspecting the plant (as I routinely do) I noticed that tiny little keikis are forming on the old canes. Can you imagine this with keikis---Be still my heart!

Thank goodness for making exceptions! infact i would imagine some people round here make quite a few, our collections would lack some memorable suprizes and rewards. Cant quite find the line for questionable dead canes on dendros, i have left it for the breeze to blow them away as decayed crumbling dust and then......alas.... i can conclude that the air circulation is up to standard within the grow areas.

bravo on the photoshoot too. Enchanting colours! peaches orange yellows and delicate textures !!!!!

Hi there.....oh, no, I know those are growths! The keikis are on some other canes I didn't photograph!

One of my favourites, for the sentimental reason that it was maybe t he first dend' species I ever saw in flower in the wild. Many years ago ! I was so green that looking at that lip, I thought I had found a Paph' although in those far off dayss we called them cyprepediums. I wonder how many other members of this forum remember that far back ?
