At the rate you are fertilizing I don't feel it would be a problem. The moss is a great idea though.

Thanks for replying and your advice, Ryan. Do you think this root issue is directly connected to the splotchy leaves?
I agree that Amey's idea of the moss is a good idea. When I initially mounted the phals, I used sphag moss, but I've had them for a few years and what I put on had fallen off. I had totally forgot about using moss mainly for moisture retention. Amey may have solved my dessicated root problem.

Your advice is very good...I appreciate that. I was telling Ryan that when I initially mounted the phals (a few yrs. ago), I used moss over the roots mainly for water retention, as you advised again, but since then, it has of course fallen off. Moss had totally slipped my mind, so thanks for jogging my memory (it's slipping in my old age). I added the moss this morn. :>)

Amey, what are your thought on foliar feeding with epsom salt? What rate would you recommend?
