Haha, AZ is technically a hotter state than Texas. But like you said, it's dry heat and most of Texas is humid. It really makes it awful.

I got lucky when we moved to CA and found an upstairs condo with no roof over the deck. I DID have to deal with the logistics of building a shade structure that would support hanging plants and be lightweight enough for one person to remove if need be. We got it right the second season! As far as heat goes, I get made fun of a bit. Being from Alabama, I get strange looks and comments when I complain about the "heat" here. I'd give ANYTHING to have air conditioning. No one does here in northern CA unless they live far inland. It's horrid!

No air conditioning? None? Nunca?
I can't at that. Cannot.
NONE AT ALL IN MY CONDO! Just a box fan in a window. Saturday, it was nearly a hundred degrees out at three o clock! Granted, it was in the low sixties by ten...but still! We couldn't stay inside AT ALL for the afternoon.

That's ridiculous. I would start flipping houses and shit over like the hulk if I had to put up with that.
It doesn't happen often. When it does, I just go down to the pool and misbehave after I have made sure the orchids are ok.

True panam, even though I am from Texas, it was 115 the last time I was in Arizona! I think the humidity here (which i love) makes the heat more unbearable!
It is so hot here now. I had to order a replacement coil for our air conditioner. It started leaking freon last summer and will not cool now. Talk about hot. At least at night it gets down into the upper 70's.
As for the roof overhang - think of it this way - another place to hang your orchids.Without it, they would be just stuck to the wall. haha...
Cheers,

Try Deep South Texas 90 ti 95 by 10 am and that was back in the beginning of march with 60 to 80% humidity and I work outside in full sun 9 hours a day doing landscaping (you know the really hard back breaking work where you completely soak thru 4 shirts a day type stuff )
Do you go home to air conditioning?
