Why Vandas?

Miller how about Vanda Cindy Banks 'Bill's Choice' AM/AOS. With the right care it blooms three or four times a year and for a Vanda it grows fairly rapidly even in winter when many Vandas don't do much.

ok, I think I want one but you guys have not given me a lot of names that I should look at. I don't want to get one them somebody post that it only blooms every ten years! lol

Buy an ascocenda. They're a little smaller and bloom more often than the big vandas. Also get a blooming size plant, not a seedling.

Ascda. Suksamran Sunlight is a great first vanda. It's a compact growing plant that blooms often. Many of them have a beautiful yellow/orange color. It's still one of my favorites.

Why Vandas? I have often thought that myself. The allure for me came on my first purchase of a sanderiana. I paid almost a week's salary for it back in the late 70s/80's and still know who I bought it from. He now hybridizes bulbos.
What more can you ask for? Fragrance that rivals almost any orchid. The fact that when they are out of bloom they still command a presence that is fabulous with all their roots tumbling around, hanging to the ground. It is pretty sexy. And then there are blooms in every hue, large and small. Factor in that most with good culture will bloom 3 to 4 times a year (many will bloom much more that that).
Yes, they require loads of attention in spraying for rot and keeping thrips at bay. I get great satisfaction fertilizing them. While watering is a never ending chore...I love to see the roots plump up and turn bright green out of appreciation.

I looked those up when you mentioned them in another post, I do like them and I have nothing that blooms with Orange flowers currently. Size is not and issue for me, I think I may even prefer larger sized plants. I only one place close to me in Houston to get orchids so may have to hit the the internet.
