Natali that is one beautiful snake. I know you weren't thrilled to find it heading up your driveway when you got home, as I wouldn't have been either.

Actually, I was My husband and I love snakes and never kill them. I worry only about my kid who is too young to understand how dangerous poisonous snakes can be if you mess with them, and my dogs (the little one is real hunter and crazy about snakes, cotton mouths particularly. If she attacks, snake will strike back. Medical bills for snake bite start with $1500, and there is no guarantee that dog will get well.
Bottom line: I like to observe poisonous snakes but not at my front door.

Natali, if you weren't aware, that is a cottonmouth/water moccasin, aka poisonous and mean. Do stay clear or kill that joker. If you were already aware, I am glad.

Actually, I have already a big collection of their pictures (just love to observe and photograph wild life. Snakes, gators etc.)

Natalie - you are one brave woman, I'm presuming you have a really long lens on that camera, jeez I give a garter snake a wide berth. Poisonous snakes, no way, another reason to stay clear of my birth state. Sorry I have an unreasonable fear, stupid I know. Stay safe down there. I'm thinking my sister is happy right at the moment that this past weekend was her high school reunion up here in Massachusetts or else she would have been braving the downpours and tornado warnings with Tony in Ocala and trying to persuade her cat out of the closet. If I saw a snake i'd be beating it with my cane while screaming like a little girl! Where I grew up they were harmless, but I have a wonderful fear of them as my brother used to like to throw them at me and run so I wouldn't beat him for it. I was super careful when I went foraging to save the Encyclia up the road. I didn't see snakes, only a very large bee's hive that was opened up when the tree went down. I cannot seem to get the AOS to come get the remaining plants. I am going to go back tomorrow, if my legs cooperate, and see how many more I can save. I'm going to nail them to every surface in my yard I can find.

Hmmmm, time to take your dogs for snake training. I have friend in Colorado who takes her dogs for rattlesnake training. Dogs have a electrical pulse collar and the trainer sets it the highest setting and then introduces the snake. When the dog starts to move toward snake it gets a nasty shock at the neck. It usually doesn't take more than two shocks to train them to keep away. The never need another shock after that, they just take off in the other direction whenever they see ANY snake. - martha

If they haven't had it removed by then you are welcome to come and rescue some. I'll check Thursday and see if the limbs are still there.

Good for you Natali and your hubby. I understand what you are saying about the child and dogs, and I know that takes an extra measure of precaution. But mindlessly killing wild animals because they MIGHT be dangerous is just nuts to me. I wish everyone who kills snakes on sight to be up to their armpits in palm rats, lol!

Quite right.
This is why we did not do anything, just waited when the creature leaves. It did. When I took dogs for a walk later they did not spot any snake's presence.
