I have done a bit of research ; I have found a bird, a beetle, and a two-winged fly (diptera) all with fuscopunctatus as their specific name . One of them has the common name of the black spotted shieldback ( that's a beetle - I think - did you know that there are more species of beetle than all other animals put together ? It has been irreverently said, that if the Lord God who made all things, liked making things in his own image, then God must be a Beetle... what an amzing thought ).
But in short, I think I got it right . I said fusco = dusty colour ; it is the same latin root as fustian , which means no colour, or black .
What a clever boy I am.
Apologies if I am OTT ; my wife had an op this afternoon - I am not to ring the hospital until tomorrow to ask, so the attractions of finishing that bottle of wine were a little too strong.
