Phalaenopsis violacea var. coerulea
Ta-da!!!! My first species phal (it's not Phillip's, honest) and I LOVE it. I smelled one in the Orchid Conservatory last time I went - it was growing too high up for me to see it well - and the scent was heavenly. So, I've been looking for one in spike that didn't cost half the rent and finally found this one.
I've discovered that there are some P. violaceae that are far deeper violet than mine - it's actually a rather delicate pale yellow with a center of lavender. I'm not entirely certain these photos picked up the color.
This last photo shows that the center leaf, which is otherwise flawless, has aperfectly circular hole in the center - about the size of a dime - no evidence of pests or fungus, although I throroughly 'cided' it anyway. Anyone have any idea what could cause that?
