    Default Doricentrum Pulcherrimin

    Here is another delightful intergeneric miniature, a primary cross of Doritis pulcherrima x Asctm miniatum. It has a spike with 2 side branches and should have about 30 blooms but thrips have destroyed the first dozen blooms or so before I could spray insecticide. The flowers are about the size of the Doritis parent and the Ascocentrum has improved the form of the flower and intensified the colour. It is not very free flowering, about 2 times a year.

    About 2 weeks for individual flowers - it is a sequential bloomer and as the older 1 or 2 flowers drop off they are replaced by new blooms so that there is always a bunch of 5 - 8 flowers at any one time and the spike with blooms may go on for about 2 months or slightly more, very much like its Doritis parent,

    Thank you, Maura. Yes I shot it with the D200 in RAW (normally only in JPEG). I used the macro Tamron SP 90 as I normally do for most of my orchid shots.

    Very very beautiful Yew, just before seeing this post, I was eyeing another color variant of this very same hybrid, it is a cross of the alba version of the doritis, and can I say that one is also spectacular, I think I am going to buy it
