It happens...external disk drive.

I have all my photos stored on an external disk drive size 1.5 TB.
Suddenly I found that the computer can't detected this disk, experts have found that the disk is corrupt. I had to pay quite a lot for saving data from disk and now I'm waiting, how successful they will be. On this disk I had all of my photos, those I already published and the other one, I still have not edited and published yet, I thought I'll do it when I'll have some more time. You probably do not even imagine my feelings when I realized that I lost a bulky database: also all of my orchids that have recently bloomed.

So sorry to hear about your problem, Branka. I hope you will be able to retrieve your photos. I store my pictures on CDs and flash drives as recommended by friends as I know next to nothing about computers. I hope nothing happens to them.

Oh I most certainly do! And my heart goes out to you. I, albeit too infrequently, download my photos and documents to CD/DVD. Last autumn, my computer got a virus and I was forced to reload the OS. In the process I lost a lot of photos that I had not backed up and even worse several programs that I have not been able to afford to replace (financial issues). So yes, I do indeed "feel your pain". Hope the material on your corrupted drive can be recovered.

Oh No!! Happens to everyone. Once all my photos could not be read in my computer and did not has backups... My heart goes out with you! Fingers crossed for you that all the data, photos, and much will be recovered!!! I feel you pain too.

Oh, that is terrible, I have it happen to me once ! From then on I believe in storing on multiple devices and I do not store on very big hard disks. I have several 10- 40 GB hard disks and a few 4 -16 GB pen drives. I store the data separately so that I do not have to fiddle with all the data. And in case one of them goes corrupt I do not loose everything. I have been considering the use cloud storage systems like google drive or drop box but I am a bit skeptical about online storage.

I have my info (pictures, docs, etc) stored on my computer, backed up on 2 of my external hard-drives as well. Seriously thinking of investing in a RAID-based storage device so that it can automatically keep the back-ups instead of me having to fiddle too much (I do not do a regular back-up to my hard drive as of now). I thought about the GoogleDrive and DropBox, but am somehow skeptical of keeping too much info on the web. Pictures of orchids is OK, but not all of the data.

Yay....I've got my pics back!!! "Rescue team" has done their job perfectly
I've stored my pictures on CDs & DVDs first and then suddenly all my photos on CDs & DVDs could not be read in my or any other computer. So I lost all my data & pics and started again.
I was advised by my friend to buy external disc as more safly way of data storage but it broke during the warranty period
As Satish said it is quite smart to have 2 external discs and I'm going to buy another one: one for storage and one for back up.
So, I really am happy: now I have all my pics back and a new disk, because the broken one was still under warranty....yay!

So sorry to hear this. I take the safe way by uploading data onto my email account and saving it as draft. I don't rely on hardware data storage solely.
