very nice!
Hi Gin,
That is a beauty! And three spikes! What do you feed them? 100% Superthrive? And the plant is humongous! Great growing, Gin! How long have you had this plant? I also see other vandas next to it as well!
Cheers. Hoa.
I have had it about 5 years , it was unbloomed a recent import when I bought it . They are my favorites , except for being space hogs . They went out under a tree last spring , watered them with the hose and fert . once a week full strength . In the greenhouse they get part tap and part Ro. or rain water . Once a month straight Ro. or rain .![]()
They are space hogs alright! I have a few of those!
Woa!!! Interesting schedule (almost perfect!) but apparently they respond extremely well to the regimen. Here in Southern Cal, we have problem with not having enough rain (except last year) so I never collect enough rain water for my orchids. So they have to live with tap water! I got distilled/RO water for them during late spring/summer at least once a month, just to get rid of the accumulated fertilizer salts. And rain water whenever I got enough!
Beautiful vandas that you have! They look so lush!
Cheers. Hoa.
My tap has a fairly high ph . but not bad tds. I was using a battrey eating sprayer and using the rain water mixed with tap to bring down the ph.when they were outside , but it got to be a pain, spent all my time changing batteries . I got my water report and decided they could get to like it in the summer .
In the greenhouse I mix the tap and ro or rain in a 33 gal trash can and use a submersable pump to water . Except for a few picky plants that get ro..
I see you are in the Pasadena area did you go to see the Rose Parade ? we went every year when in LosAngeles . Thanks for the kind words . Gin
We staked out a spot last year to watch the Rose Parade. But this year, we were content with watching it on TV. This year, it's the first time in something like 50 years that it rained on the Rose Parade. What a bummer! People think that the DVD/tape of this year's Rose Parade could be a collector item since it hardly ever rain on it but this year, it did!
Cheers. Hoa.
