Diane,
Oh that is too bad that you could not go to the Santa Barbara show. But the San Diego show is not too shabby although you might have to drive a long way! Since I live halfway between the two shows, I always go to these. From Costa Mesa to Del Mar Playground where they have the San Diego Show is only 1 hour driving. From Pasadena to Santa Barbara, it takes only 90 minutes without traffic jam.
Cheers. Hoa.

Man i wish i could go, its to bad that i live in canadaman the orchid show that we have here isnt that good at all... i live in london, and where is Costa Mesa?
Well, it's not like the NH show is Kew Gardens or Miami...but it's all relative! And when you don't have much, not much is big.
Julie
Well, a little Google search does indicate there is an orchid show staged annually by the London Ontario Orchid Society (in April 2006). So that is not too bad, maybe just enough to wet your appetite!
Julie is right, it is all relative.
However, if you are still so inclined, you can always consider taking a vacation to Southern Cal or Miami overlapping with the timing of the orchid shows and escape the snow altogether. Costa Mesa is a small city, south of Los Angeles, but is part of the Greater Southern Cal/Los Angeles/Orange County metropolis spread. We are only a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean so the weather is extremely temperate. As a result, you can grow a lot of orchids outdoor without the need of a greenhouse. In fact, the whole coastal California region, you can do that! Since it is "so easy" to grow orchids here, there are a lot of people taking up this hobby and this very large army of hobbyists provides the backbone support for all of the orchid societies and shows here.
In Southern Cal, there are 3 biggest orchid shows staged in late winter/early spring here: The Fascination of the Orchids in Costa Mesa (always the first to be held here in February), the San Diego Show (in early/mid March), and the Santa Barbara Show in late March. There are many other smaller shows scattering around here like the ones in South Bay, Industrial City, etc...
I went to the New York Orchid Show staged at the Rockefeller Center in Manhattan last year. It was a terrific show but it was not as big as the Fascination of the Orchids in Costa Mesa or the Santa Barbara Show here in Southern Cal! But you can always consider trying out that one!
Lot of things you could do but there is always so little time (and the greenbacks) ...
Cheers. Hoa.

The next one isn't till April! Aaaargh, I'll go crazy before then.... so I hope y'all showme piccies!
