Paph. esquirolei bud just sitting there...!!

I have Paph. esquirolei in shealth since May, and I open it in see a bud inside. I'm just wondering how long the bud going to take before it bloom. The bud is still green and I can see the fuzzy purple stem, so it obviously hasn't blast on me yet. I heard this specie is generally winter bloomer so will it be sitting there for along time?

I am not a big specialist in paphs but I have a lazy phal () that has sustained 5 spikes at the pic, some of them with buds, for a minimum of 2 years. Just dorment. The going to sleep faze for each of these spikes was related to a move from one window to another. It took her 2 years to bloom on 3 of those spikes and them they withered. The most frustrating orchid I have. maybe your got confused and does the same, don't give up hope!

Paphs are notorious for taking their sweet time to bloom. I bought a few in bud years ago and it took months (irrc) for them to fully develop and open. Just be patient

I have several Paphs that take their sweet time--three or four months or longer--for the bud to fully develop.
It does teach you patience but it's worth it when they finally bloom.

Be patient! Mine sat there for 4 months and its gonna pop soon! They are turtles...

From my experience, esquirolei takes about 2-3 months from sheath to bloom and that is par for most of my paphs. What surprises me though is that my esquirolei regularly blooms under my hot lowland growing conditions - actually twice this year. The record for the 'gestation' period of my paphs must go to Paph stonei - average of 8 months.

That makes me feel so much better then. I have a few paphs in sheaf - one with the beginnings of a spike down in the crown- but so far none of them have actually done any blooming. I was worried that my wardii album -which has a small spike deep in the crown - was going to eventually blast. Maybe it won't now. I shall just have to learn the orchid art of patience.
