Miltonia Peter Komp

Good Evening Friends. Here are some photos taken this afternoon of a young Miltonia hybrid I acquired earlier this year. This is her first flowering. I am very impressed by the quality of this hybrid (Milt Peter Komp): vigorous, sturdy, and doing well at my place.

This is a bit of a milestone for me: normally this alliance is fussy, and this plant arrived from the nursery with some pleating... but all the growth made here under my regime has produced perfectly unpleated tissue. Unbelievable. I feel I've arrived... somewhere!

Lovely bloom? I really like the colors on this. Congratulations on the bloom and the success with the culture. Apparently you have the watering aspect down so As to avoid the pleating. That is an area I need to work on.

Bill, I am still pinching myself. Have I really turned a corner? Maybe- o joy! You see I thought I was the Grand Pleatmeister because if a plant could pleat, it pleated as soon as I looked at it

Beautiful, Igor - a very different-looking Miltonia, in my very limited experience. Great 3rd photo. You must have the coolness and humidity that they like - I can't even keep them alive in my little apartment set-up. I think Miltonias are very tricky indeed.

Aren't they just!! I have lost two... I must admit this cross is at least partially responsible for its own success: it IS unlike your usual Milty: muscular, with quite meaty stems and thick waxy blooms... and I can only see it going on to greater things. It just does not say to me "Enjoy this while you can, because as soon as I've done flowering I'm going into a slow and irreversible decline." which is what Milties usually say to me! And Odonts... and all that bunch really. NOTE: At the same time I also got this spanking Odont cross which also promises great stuff. All digits crossed. Will keep you posted.

UPDATE:

This one just gets better- it has now started to emit a great spicy fragrance, very sweet and very peppery (I thought it was coming from one of the open cattleyas!) Also the colours have now developed on the sepals and lateral petals- proper warm chestnut. A second bloom is open now...

(There is another of these "onky" intergenerics getting ready to pop: xBeallara Tahoma "Glacier Green". Well, that is what it is supposed to be...we shall soon see if it really is!)

That is definitely a different color scheme. Congratulations!

I am also very good at producing pleated leaves, especially in some varieties. If you need any tips on creating multiple generations of plants with pleating, let me know. LOL

Thank you for your kind offer, but I have't lost my touch completely: the pregnant Beallara has a pleat! (Only one pleat, but it's kind of longitudinal and not the usual crossways kind which I'm used to, so I you see there's even a bit of creativity going on here! O yeah.)
