Aerangis biloba

Another one of my species in this genus, and perhaps the pettiest one yet shown. For size comparisons, that is a six inch plastic basket. Twenty buds and flowers, max dimension , not counting the spurs about 3 or at most 3.5cm. The spurs up to 4 or 5 cm long. The leaf poic is included to show where the name comes from ( I guess).

Thank you, Geoff, for showing the leaf. I was looking at the flowers trying to discern where the bi-lobing was; then I moved on and saw the leaf.

As it happens, I brought the plant in to photograph in the last of the daylight this aftgernoon - outside temperature about 6 degrees C. I tried the fragrance, but couldn't detect any ; but these white flowers are almost always pollinated by night flying insects - moths in this case, so the fragrance won't develop until true darkness. Also, producing perfume molecules and releasing them to evaporate and float away is heavy work for the plant , and plants only do it when conditions are right - which probably means a temperature high enough for the pollinator moth to be abroad. All sensible tropical night flying moths are still tucked up in bed at our temperatures , so to answer your question truly, I'll have to sneak out at say 2 am, hope the greenhouse is at least up to design temperature ( 16 degrees C now) and then have a sniff. Since a night temperature of 2 degrees is forecast for my trip across the lawn , I think I will just believe that it will be fragrant. If that's not good enough , I'll lend you a torch ? (joke).

I gave up for this beautiful species can grow very well here but why under my care refused to bloom however my friends he rewarded snow white twice a year, I have no luck with this beauty so nice Geoff.
