The time of giant purple/lavender catts has arrived! This plant, Lc. Drumbeat 'Triumph' (Lc. Bonanza x C. Horace) is the first among the giant spring-blooming lavender cattleyas to bloom this year. A show-stopper floofy with enormous 8+ to 9 in. vibrant rose-purple flowers! This year, the plant gives off 4 blooms on one stem. That is better than the average. The flowers are very fragrant of course! How can't we not fall in love with these?

And yes, Mildred arrives on Thurs. Along with a Bras. digbyana, a phal. shilleriana, and a phal. aphrodite. A bunch of others fell into my basket throughout the weekend. This place is bursting with blooms - yahoo!

The Alarcon grex is a cross between Lc. Canhamiana and C. Dupreana. This is the stunningly gorgeous coerulea version!
This clone has one of the darkest/most intense coerulea coloration on the flowers that I have ever seen on any blue cattleyas. Stunningly beautiful! Exquisite fragrance as well! And the blooms are also LARGE, unusual for blue catts!

Wow, you gave in to the desire ... Good for you! Take a picture of recent acquisitions, blooming or not blooming, and share with us. You know that we like your windowsill arrangement! Every time I look at ochid bloom(s), they always bring a smile to my face. Definitely a mood enhancer just like chocolate.

Well Hoa,

I have a very modest collection by all standards here - it's about to swell to an all-time high of 55 (counting the Thurs. arrivals [4] and the roths I haven't yet ordered). About 30% of mine are species.

Of that, I've got 9 currently blooming, 4 about to open, a bunch with spikes just starting and I expect most of the 4 showing up will be in bloom or bud. It's pretty cool - makes me smile! Some of the bloomers and about-to-bloomers are first times, so I'm psyched!

I'm really jammed this week finishing a paper for a client, but I'll take pics next week.

Wow, indeed you are doing extremely well, considering the number of plants in bloom or about to versus the total. I have to say you do have lot of plants for growing inside like that!!! Resourceful eh! Best wishes to you and all ... Maybe I should have an orchid gift for you one day (or something else if you like sweet stuff like chocolate). Among my catts, have you found anything else to your liking besides the Midred Rives?

She's here! And she's a BIG girl!

Luckily they found me one that hadn't started blooming...but it's close. Four inflorescences. Two have single buds that are very close to opening. One is still in the sheath and looks like it has two buds, and one sheath isn't very large yet. She's bursting out of an 8" pot!

I had a spot reserved for her. My sunniest window didn't have a proper plant stand, and the cats' scratching post was just the right height and could hold three pots. So I've been using that for a couple of years now. I laughed today when I set Mildred in her place and realized the scratching post and the windowsill in front of it were covered entirely with catts!

The Phal. aphrodite didn't enjoy the trip quite as much. Eight lovely blooms blasted en route, so I think I'm going to cut the spike high and see if it wants to try again.

No surprise there that Mildred is a BIG girl! Big girls and boys give off big blooms! Sounds like you scored an amazing purchase with that Mildred, a four sheaths plant in an 8 in pot! By the next growth cycle and proper light treatment, this plant could easily win blue/green ribbons in any orchid contest! I am glad you enjoy the plant and as an added bonus, it will bloom soon for you!
There is nothing wrong with having lot of catts. They are the Queens of all the orchids! (But do you know who the Kings are? Bishops and Knights?)
I also have the phal. aphrodite. Very pretty!
