Paph. Pulsar x Black Buddha

This is the fellow I found at the box store last Sunday. (For $12!)

I think he's opened fully, but the dorsal is a bit lazy, so the first photo is angled up a bit more than the second (in the second I was trying to look down his throat a little so you could admire his lovely green tonsils.) I'm curious which view people prefer - please let me know.

In both, the indirect lighting was very bright, so that pretty wine color comes out. In reality, the thing is dark as the night, absorbing all nearby light. I wanted to capture that, so the third photo was taken with indirect windowsill light. The angle doesn't show the dorsal well, but the dark color is pretty accurate.

hmm... which to pick... which...

I like the third because it shows the beautiful colour, esp the green light in the middle...

I like the second because it shows the interesting shape of the stigma...

and I like the first because those outstretched petals say to me - "Take me just as I am!"

Well the third had to be posted to show the realistic color, which is so much darker than you'd believe from the first two.

My question was more, which view of a Paph. is a better perspective for photographing. Dorsals are notorious for not standing erect, and I haven't gotten Jason's pencil trick to work. I ideally want to see both an upright dorsal in a shot, and the form of the stigma. But if you can't get both, which do you go for?

nice vini. I know what you mean about the color, which is a dark dark purple that turns red with light is flashed on it. a busy schedule turns out to be the perfect way to stake a paph...you stake the spike loosely when it develops, then ignore the thing while it opens. a few days to a week later when you get around to admiring it, the flower has set and you can tie it straight upright.

I like the angle on the first one but the color/ hair detail on the last one . Very pretty bloom . Gin
