Actually, from what I understand, Doritis generally like more sun and require a bit more of it to flower than straight Phals... (although now that they've been lumped together it just makes things more complicated...)... I have a Vandaenopsis plant that is happily growing in bark in a glazed pot. It's not quite blooming size yet, but it's growing like a weed, and the roots are quite happy in the bark. It's a straight Vanda/Phal primary cross I believe...I have to double check on that... but the name of it is Vandaenopsis "Newberry Whimsy." There wasn't a lot of culture info on it online besides, "Grow it like a Phal but with more sun." Erm, okay.

I think these Doritis/Phal/Vandaceous crosses are actually pretty tolerant of a variety of conditions. I've seen pics of people growing their Doritis/Ascocenda crosses happily in plastic nursery pots with bark. You'll have to experiment and see what works best for you! Make sure to report back!
