Bulbophyllum lobbii

The usual Bulbophyllum lobbii that is illustrated has a brighter yellow-reddish color compared to this.

At first I was quite doubtful that this indeed is B. lobbii, until I saw the bloom illustrated in Teoh Eng Soon’s Orchids of Asia. The plant is endemic to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Thomas Lobb collected the first specimens for Veitch and Sons of the UK, in the island of Borneo.

it does appear that this species is quite variable... given it's widespread distribution, there would be some localised speciation process happening I suppose...

I would say it is a medium-sized bulbo. The clump I got however, is quite big.

It is awesome! I just got a new bulbo last week at our Orchid society meeting. It is called Bulbo. putidum. I look forward to its bloom.

Hi ! BTW can it survive the heat of Metro Manila? Like Novaliches or Quezon City area?

How many percentage of light does it require? I have seen some of those plants during the 60th POS and 30th PHS joint show in the Flora Filipina 2006 last month.

Mrs. Cora Purificacion had some plants that were exhibited in the show , accroding to one of the workers it strives beautifully in their farm in Alfonso, Cavite.
