I have a cirrhopetalum that I bought a few years ago at about the same size yours is now...I basketed mine as Ron described....old shade cloth liner with small bark medium. They certainly ramble in any direction and are nearly impossible to contain. I've not tried a bulb pan, but I'd think a basket would be easier in the long run as long as you can commit to watering frequently.
