flowers wilting on Phal

Hi! One of my Phals has spiked 3 times since August 2012 it is now blooming for the 3rd time but the flowers droop and then fall off, it has done this every time it has spiked then the buds at the top of the spike will open and flower for a few weeks and all is well, it is the first flowers to open that wilt usually 3 blooms.

If they are lasting a few weeks they have probably spent as much time as they need. Are you asking why you only have 3 blooms?. post

I had a phal that did that twice. I unpotted it and discovered most of the roots were dead. I trimmed it up and repotted it in bark and it is now growing new roots and leaves. Even after I trimmed the roots it started another spike which I removed to give the plant a chance to recover.

Is there any other kind of ripening fruits growing close by? Because the ripening fruits release gases which can certainly cause the orchid flower to wilt and die prematurely. Just change the environment of flower. Another major contributor could be the lack of water.

How about water vapor coming from rice cooker or soap smelled bathroom? Are they harmful to Phal flower buds? I'm living in a small apartment and I'm afraid that the smoke or water vapor harms the plant.

Thanks all have removed the flowers and left the buds to develope, other Phals blooming beside this one have not been affected, where this one has wilted the first flowers to open every time it has produced a new spike but the other flowers on the spike have have lived on for many weeks.
