Hi Natali,here in Australia they grow in an area with 60% light normally hanging from tree branches with cool breeze the flower spikes from the base of the bulbs,I have one of the new guinea ones that has just finished flowing we are now in autumn, the one you have should flower in spring time.my plants are under 50% shade cloth. hope this helps

I grow, Dockrillia teretfolia under 50% shadecloth with plenty of air movement and they flower in spring a large plant look lovely in flower they call it a bridal veil masses of white blooms .In the wild they grow in my area generly high up trees, if I can be of any further assistance on Australian orchids let me know

My plant is going to bloom again!! Two more spikes are appearing, so I suppose the plant is quite happy with my growing conditions.
I grow my orchids outside 24\7, so they receive plenty of air movement... we have very strong winds here all year around.I grow my plants in partial shade for we have very strong sun here.
I really do love orchids of your region and PNG (especially Bulbophyllums). Thank you for your willingness to help. I'll be glad to ask you some questions, now and later. Could you tell me how long the flowers last? It is only 3-5 days here. I wonder if it is common for the species, or it is just my plant\my condition. for we have here very strong sun.

Hi Natali, yes the blooms last 5 to8 days don't expose to strong light or sun will help to maintain blooms

I would just like to add a little bit to this topic... I live in far north queensland and this species or orchid is quite common in my local area. Here they will bloom 3-4 times in a season, and yeah the flowers last about 5 days. One thing I would recommend is maybe giving the plant some more root space. Their roots can travel literally meters along the tree. Anyway congrats on the pencil orchid, it's a beauty!

thank you for your post. I apologize for the late response.
My plant is in bloom again. Flowers opened on March 7th and they are still fresh. The scent is very powerful this time.
