it's very important to not judge growing conditions with regards to media purely by what material you're using!
You have to think about how much you water... if you like to water everyday and can sustain this behaviour, then I see no problem with using something that dries out really fast.
I have resorted to using plain bark as a media. Reasons:-
1. it is uncomplicated, I only need one type of material.
2. It dries up fairly quickly so my regime of watering every two or three days means that my orchids aren't drying out too much or staying wet too long.
3. i prefer the look of it to say sphagnum moss or coco fiber... but others may prefer those...
so remember, think about how you water and then work out what material is best to use.
