Very nice rendering. The leaves on that species are quite wide, and you captured that well.
As far as the angle of the shot, horticulturally it would be good to see the flowers head on. But you're right about lighting. A good friend is the grand-neice of Frank Benson - the most famous of American impressionist painters. Studying art as a child (she's now a famous sculptor), he always told her that painting and drawing are entirely about light.
So keep drawing - great stuff!
